Premium Hedgehog with Calciworms
Our Premium Hedgehog Food is comprised of a mix of our standard hedgehog pellets with added dried calciworms. Our hedgehog pellets contain 50% chicken, whole grain cereals and a blend of omega 6 and 3 from linseed and fish oils, which makes them highly desirable to hedgehogs and also great for a hedgehog’s dietary requirements. Hedgehogs need a very high protein level in their diet, which is why our pellets are always no less than 50% poultry.
The addition of calciworms makes this a particularly desirable food for hedgehogs. In the past people fed mealworms to hedgehogs, but mealworms are not great for their diet and actually in excess they can be harmful as they are very low in calcium. Calciworms, however, have more than 50x the calcium of mealworms, so they are a perfectly safe alternative to feed to hedgehogs as a treat.Â
We recommend our hedgehog foods because they are high in poultry content, making them ideal for hedgehogs which need a high protein content in their diet. If you don’t use a specially formulated hedgehog food, a puppy or kitten food can be used instead, but preferably not an adult dog or cat food as this will not have a high enough protein content. We do not advise giving hedgehogs bread, as it has a low energy content and is therefore fairly worthless as a hedgehog food. Also please bear in mind that hedgehogs are lactose intolerant and should never be given milk.
